Making the transition to the third era of natural resources management , by Nathan L. This is an ideal paper for probing the psychological anguish that accompanies the pragmatic shift in conservation paradigms forced by rapid climate change. The author has worked in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park for 35 years, and he wrote this essay as a contribution to the National Park Service Centennial in This third era promises to overturn not only some of our most fundamental assumptions about parks and protected areas, but also many of the ideals we currently hold dear. A common initial reaction to the diverse challenges of this transition is to feel overwhelmed and adrift; I have certainly had such feelings myself. But these feelings carry the risk of reducing our effectiveness as resource stewards right when we can least afford to be less effective:
Torbay Council in palm tree row AGAIN as contractors remove tatty seafront specimens
Hundreds of examples of the ubiquitous Torbay Palm can be seen throughout the Bay – so much so that the tourist board adopted the palm tree as its logo. The palm tree logo for the English Riviera But the four taller and less hardy palms planted outside the new Torre Abbey Sands flats have become increasingly spindly and unhealthy since they were first planted just a few years ago.
And it is not the first time the council has run into bad publicity over its palm tree spending. Torday Torbay Council said: The palm trees started well but quickly faded “All the understorey planting will also be removed. One of the surviving palms will to be transferred to a nursery for replanting.

Missionary Sex Positions Ahhh, Missionary. Traditionally considered the “default sex position,” Missionary offers lots of advantages to first-timers and people looking for sex that’s more on the vanilla side. However, there are lots of slight variations on it that can amp things up in terms of the pleasure, the intensity and the kink factor — for both partners. Check out these Missionary-inspired versions: Missionary Carlee Ranger The Missionary position man on top, couple facing each other is the most famous and classic of all positions.
The eye contact, the mild male dominance and the angle of penetration make this a popular one, and odds are, the first time you had sex was in Missionary. Start in regular Missionary, and then flatten your torso as much possible, while your partner should arch her legs and put her legs on your butt. What you’re doing here is targeting the clitoris for more direct rubbing and friction. The pressure you put on her clitoris could help her get to orgasm quicker.
You should also be staying nice and deep within her in the C. In other words, this one is more for her pleasure than yours. Legs On Shoulders Carlee Ranger A classic take on Missionary, this one can either be done with you lying down on top of her, or with her positioned at the edge of the bed and with you in standing or more accurately leaning in with her legs on your shoulders as you go into her.
Tree Planting with Dish It: Edmonton’s Root for Trees Program
As the season turns, many of us nature-lovers anticipate our favorite birdsongs. Indiscriminate and ill-timed spraying of trees, though a popular means of pest control, negatively affected the surrounding wildlife and the trees themselves. So what happened, exactly? The chemicals stayed in the leaves and the bark of the trees and, come fall, the poisoned leaves fell to the ground and decomposed into soil. Silent Spring is a great reminder of the importance of evolving ecological practices.

The Bureau of Forestry has been tackling the backlog utilizing new management efficiencies including grid routing. In , DSS had 28, open requests dating back to The Mayor also made budget investments in both and for weekend forestry work, which has also helped reduce the tree trimming request backlog. The crews will address ongoing tree trimming requests and help completely eliminate the backlog by the end of DSS has also begun inoculations on viable Ash trees to help fight against Emerald Ash Borer, EAB an exotic beetle that has obliterated tens of thousands of Ash trees across the country.
The City first kicked-off its multi-year plan to protect viable trees against the EAB in Over the past three years, the Bureau of Forestry has treated more than 61, trees. Crews began assessing those trees for retreatment in June, and will continue working through September when treatment is believed to be most effective. Roughly 30, Ash trees will be treated this year, with an additional 30, anticipated for Trees being treated will be tagged with purple markers to track the treatment cycle and create awareness in the community.
These inoculations are part of our comprehensive strategy to protect our urban canopy.

Hedge laying If hedges are not maintained and trimmed regularly, gaps tend to form at the base over many years. In essence, hedgelaying consists of cutting most of the way through the stem of each plant near the base, bending it over and interweaving or pleaching it between wooden stakes. This also encourages new growth from the base of each plant. Originally, the main purpose of hedgelaying was to ensure the hedge remained stock-proof.
Some side branches were also removed and used as firewood.
The company is taking plane tree cuttings in other parts of London, too, in the expectation of having new London plane trees grown from London stock ready for planting in London’s streets and parks within years, depending on the speed at which the tiny trees will grow.
Filed under Pagadian City The Philippines, being a country archipelago of islands and seas, have naturally wonderful beaches, some of which are famous the world over. Beaches like Puerto Galera, Boracay, and the various beaches in Cebu rake in tourists from around the world all year round because of their pristine and cool blue waters and fine, white-sand shores.
However, if one will just look around more, they will find that there are other less-known but equally beautiful beach spots in other parts of the Philippines. In Pagadian, in particular, there are beaches and islands that will make one believe that there is such a thing as a secluded paradise on Earth. A nice place to start would be the Dao-Dao Islands some seven to ten minutes away from the seaport, when riding a motorboat. It is a rather big island, with an area size of about 1.
The coral reefs are artificially made, but the whole place is very much ideal for swimming, fishing, and boating. During low tides, a smaller, more undeveloped island appears and like the rest, is also suitable for fishing and swimming. There is also the White Beach that, as its name suggests, is a stretch of white sand beach just minutes southeast of the seaport.
Again, it can be reached via motorboat. The clear, deep, blue waters even during low tides are excellent for swimming and diving. The Bomba Beach, located in barangay Bomba some 2 kilometers away from the city, is also a good area for swimming and fishing, with a bomba bridge and natural coral reefs. The Muricay Beach is located further away, at 4 kilometers, but the white sands and clear seas more than make up for the distance. There are also mangrove tracts and seaweed plantations nearby, for those who are interested in such plant specimens.

But how far can you take it? Say you want to know the exact amount of tree loss Earth has seen over time — can you look at a bunch of old satellite photos and just compare the greener areas? Well, according to a Nature paper out today , yes we can! The authors did almost exactly that, analyzing 35 years of satellite data to determine the changes in land cover. And while the methods may sound straightforward, the results are a bit less intuitive:

Format is 7 BCD digits. Some digital calipers contain a capacitive linear encoder. A pattern of bars is etched directly on the printed circuit board in the slider. Under the scale of the caliper another printed circuit board also contains an etched pattern of lines. The combination of these printed circuit boards forms two variable capacitors. The two capacitances are out of phase.
As the slider moves the capacitance changes in a linear fashion and in a repeating pattern. The circuitry built into the slider counts the bars as the slider moves and does a linear interpolation based on the magnitudes of the capacitors to find the precise position of the slider. Other digital calipers contain an inductive linear encoder, which allows robust performance in the presence of contamination such as coolants. Micrometer A caliper using a calibrated screw for measurement, rather than a slide, is called an external micrometer caliper gauge, a micrometer caliper or, more often, simply a micrometer.
Sometimes the term caliper, referring to any other type in this article, is held in contradistinction to micrometer.

A peacock adorns this 5-meter long Greek inscription naming the archbishop of Tyre found west of the Sea of Galilee in the summer of in an excavation co-directed by historian Jacob Ashkenazi and archaeologist Mordechai Aviam. Unusual in a patriarchal society, the donor Sausann is credited in the inscription independently of any spouse or male guardian.
This Sausann is thought to have been a woman of some standing, perhaps following in the footsteps of her presumed namesake, the female disciple Susannah, who was among the women named in Luke 8: This too contributed to the inordinate number of women in the church, particularly upper-class women. Working in tandem, the rare multidisciplinary partnership of scholars is drawing from their respective fields to paint a comprehensive picture of 4th-5th century Christian life in the region.
There will also be tree planting, speed humps, a new pedestrian and cyclist crossing to replace the existing crossing to the south of Church Lane, as well as improvements around the war memorial.
Image 3 of 9 With the settings the way I wanted them, the shot of espresso produced was very good. It was delivered at a temperature of 68C, which is just about right. A thick, oily crema sat on top, with the shot itself dark and intense. I got the full flavour from the test beans, although some of the slight subtlety is missing, but you have to spend more than twice this money to get espresso noticeably better.
Long coffee was dispensed just as well, maintaining its heat. Should you find that the long button isn’t quite long enough, you can override the default setting so that the Naviglio pours for longer, or you can use the hot water button and dispense hot water via the steamer wand instead.
